I am now on a lunch break during my long day of meetings waiting for the afternoon session to start so I thought that I would just do a quick blog about a couple of things that amused me in the past 2 days before I forget.
1. The taxi ride over to the meeting today was funny. BOCOG has made a concerted effort to curb spitting in public as the Chinese subscribe to the philosophy of "better out than in" as a whole... I have to say that they have done a remarkable job as I have not seen too many public displays of bodily fluids. Someone forgot to tell our cabbie though. He was very nice, but full of pleghm! He had the windows openend and kept horking out the window... but it then got too hot so he rolled up his window and turned on the AC. So how did he get rid of his excess mucus you ask? Well as we were careening down the road in bumper to bumper traffic he proceeded to open his car door, void his nasal cavity and continue on his merry way... but I felt bad for those that came in his path.
2. A rose by any other name may, in reality, (regardless of what Shakespeare would say) not smell as sweet.... but it sure as heck can be much more entertaining! So, when Chinese people angliscize their names they pick their own. They do this at a very early, and we will say impressionable age.... so we have been forewarned about this as some are quite interesting. One member of our team is named "Jellyfish", and another is "Banana"... but I think my favourite just might be "Hong Kong King Kong"......I wonder what I would have chosen if I was able to pick my own name?????

I have forwarded your website to mt friends that read the Torino chronicles. Actually I think the blog idea is better than emails. Your writing so far has been very entertaining. Keep it up. Re the end of you stay I would suggest do all the travelling you can. Go through all of SE Asia. I hear Cambodia and ietnam are very interesting and beautiful.
Love dad
