Ok - quick update - I am now delayed in Toronto! So, after the flight fiasco was fixed...I will forever have... "please stay on the line... your call is important to us" ingrained in my head. I cancelled my plans for the night (sad to say Clinton's will have to wait for me to tear up its dance floor...) as I had to get up at just after 4am... I dragged my butt to the airport just to find out that the flight was delayed until 9:15am! (almost the same time as my original cancelled flight!) Oh well. I am now in the Air Canada lounge and have access to free internet, so I thought that I would take a second to update everyone on my 'exciting' journey - I am batting a thousand so far!
So here are my thoughts at 7:30 in the morning.... I have none. I am tired but excited. I have just spent the last half hour messengering with my friend David who is already in Beijing trying to get the skinny. Not much to know except to have all directions for the taxi drivers written in Chinese... check!
I have also decided to reinstitute a popular segment from my tales from Torino (when I worked the winter olympics) I will be bringing back the 'Word of the Day". Today's word (phrase actually) is brought to you by Lonely Planet (as I do not have any Chinese people sitting next to me in the lounge) and the only reason I am including it is because I can't believe that it is the first phrase in the Lonely Planet dining section...I apologize as I have not figured out how to do the accents here yet... here it is:
"wo bu chi gourou"
"I don't eat dog"...
That one goes out to Madd Harper... I still can't believe that is the first entry in the Lonely Planet! Let the cultural exceptions begin!

"gourou"? Maybe my handle of Mandarin isn't the greatest, but I thought dog (in that dialect) is pronounced more like GO (with a long 'o').
Anyway, here's my blog!
See you in September??
